The next several photos are all going to be in black and white and are all from Yale University. I figured why not make some old-looking photography of an old place!
Removing the color from a photo can be dangerous. Some photos require color to make them work. Without color all you have is composition, contrast, texture, shadows, and highlights. Color is such a strong element in a photograph that when it is there, we often miss the other elements mentioned above. Remove color and your eye hunts for other interesting things to see. As you look at these photos over the next several days, ask yourself what you see in them that you may have missed had the photo been in color.
