In this shot I slowed the shutter speed down to 1/180th of a second. I held the camera still and framed a nice composition of the Wisconsin State Capital. I took many shots as the bikers passed by and like the looks of this one the best.
I wanted to use a slower shutter speed here to blur the bikers and emphasize their motion. I tried several different shutter speeds and found this to be the best. If this shot were taken at a fast shutter speed like 1/1000th of a second everything would be tack sharp - even the bikers and spokes of the wheels. The shot looks strange in that case because we the bikers look like they are standing still.
Want to know how to use a slow shutter speed to imply motion but still keep the biker sharp? Check out tomorrow's photo.
