Out the white window

If you want to take a perfectly technical photograph, there are rules to help you do so.  One of those rules is "don't blow out the highlights".  When you blow out the highlights of a photograph, you preeminently lose all the details in that section of the image, You can never get that information back.  It is recorded on the image sensor as pure white (255,255,255).  No amount of post processing will allow you to get detail back.

That said, I intentionally blew out the highlights in this shot of our bedroom.  The room is exposed properly, the window is not.  That leaves a little sense of mystery here (what IS out that window?).

It's the look I was going for.
